Elderly Woman Harasses Kid Selling Candy (Video)

An elderly Target shopper was upset that a girl was selling candy outside the superstore in Rowland Heights, California (video below).

The altercation between the woman, a man, and the girl selling candy was caught on camera and has gone viral. The video has more than five million views and almost 70,000 shares on Facebook, according to CBS Los Angeles.

“I showed it to friends and family, not intending it to go viral at all and I guess people just started sharing it and sharing it,” said Andy Lizarraga, who filmed the incident on her smartphone and posted the footage on social media and YouTube.

Lizarraga says she recorded and shared the video after seeing the elderly woman confront the teenager for selling $1 candies.  It was unclear why the girl was selling candy. Her older brother was also selling candy outside Target.

“She comes up to the little kid and is like, ‘Where is your license? Have you asked permission to be here?’ And then the kid is like, ‘No, I’m just selling candy. I’m trying to make some money,’” said Lizarraga.

“She continued to yell at her and scream at her and tell her if she didn’t have a permit, that she was going to go to jail, that Sheriff’s were on their way,” said Jay Lopez, who walked up behind her.

Lopez said that when he went up to the girl, she was sobbing.

“When I walked up, she was crying hysterically,” he said.

Lopez offered to buy all her candy and ultimately paid for $80 worth, handing them out to passersby.

“Mind your own business. Take care of yourself and your family and everything will come together for you,” he said.

Lizarraga was asked by the elderly woman’s daughter to take down the video, though she hasn’t heard from the teenage girl.

“If it was Girl Scout cookies and it was a White girl – and I’m not putting race into this – but I bet it would have been a whole different story,” Lopez added.
