Watch: Hugh Jackman Saves Swimmers From Riptide (Video)

Actor Hugh Jackman was caught on video (below) rescuing his children and other swimmers from being caught in a riptide while at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia on March 26.

Jackman rushed to the aid of his 15-year-old son, Oscar, and 10-year-old daughter, Ava, after they became caught in a riptide while in the ocean.

"His daughter was struggling to get on to the sand bar so I reached down, grabbed her arm and put my arm up to Hugh to make a chain to pull us up on the sand bar," swimmer Peter Adam, who helped Jackman rescue Ava, told 9 News. "That's what you do with any family out there."

Another swimmer, Dan Conn, said he helped drag the children to the sand bar, though Oscar was carried out once again by the current.

"I think [Jackman] was under a bit of pressure with the two kids at once but he was pretty cool, calm and collected, as Hugh always is I suppose," Conn said.

Conn described Jackman as "definitely a bit of a superdad, superhero, and he's a super bloke too."

An unnamed witness told the Sunday Telegraph that Jackman remained calm during the terrifying rescue, according to the Daily Mail

"He stopped and helped this bloke stand up and he also helped his son," the witness said. "The swell was pretty nasty. It was a beautiful day but the swell was up."

Lifeguard Trent Falson told 9 News that Jackman thanked him numerous times for helping to save his children.

"He said, 'You guys did an amazing job,' I think he thanked me about three times on the way up the sand," Falson said.

Jackman's publicist later released a statement downplaying the events that unfolded on the beach.

"Hugh and his family are 100 per cent OK," the statement read. "It wasn't nearly as dramatic as it looks."

The beach subsequently closed for the rest of the day, and the Jackman family later left Sydney for Melbourne.
