Actress Debra Messing is in hot water after an ill-timed tweet and photo which has enraged many of her followers.
Twitchy reports that the actress posted a tweet that read: "So, this week made me angry and depressed. You all know, the thing that perks me up the most is wearable art. I saw this diamond and silver necklace from @nanfusco and just jumped. No regrets. It's even more special in person. Nothing like some distraction...#jewelrylove"
Messing also included a link to her Instagram account, where a photo of herself wearing the diamond necklace was visible.
Many took the tweet to be inappropriate, given that she appears to be capitalizing on a political story involving the suffering of refugees by advertising for a jewelry company.
BPR reports that Twitter users responded ferociously. One user wrote: "Debra Messing's To Do List: 1. Advocate for refugees living in horrific circumstances 2. Shamelessly shill for expensive jewelry."
Another added: "Geez now that is truly myopic and self centered. Kudos."
No word yet from Messing or her representatives on the response to her Tweet. We'll have to wait and see if she issues an apology.
