Charlie Sheen said on June 17 that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gave him some diamond cufflinks about five years ago that turned out to be fake (video below).
Charlie made his comments during “The Graham Norton Show” in the UK, notes Entertainment Weekly:
About five years ago, I was at a dinner with my ex-wife Brooke [Mueller] and her family, and about halfway through I noticed Donald staring at my watch. And so he started saying, “I’m sorry I can’t make your wedding.” And I’m going, “I didn’t invite you.”
He says, “I want to give you an early wedding gift as a gesture from me and Melania.” And she doesn’t say a word. She’s very sweet and very pretty, but just kind of sits there.
So he says, “These are platinum diamond Harry Winston” and he pulls off his cufflinks and he gives them to me. And so I’m like, “Oh, gosh, Mr. Trump, you really shouldn’t do this.” And he’s like, “No, no, it’s the least I can do and have a great marriage and all that.”
So, smashcut to about six months later, I had some jewelry getting appraised at the house. And she finished and was leaving. And I said, “Oh you know, there’s a couple of other pieces that I’m very curious about. Would you mind appraising these?”
I explained the dinner, this and that, and these are from Donald Trump, Harry Winston, flawless Ds, platinum.
She took the loop, spent about four seconds, and kind of recoiled from it, much like people do from Trump. And so she says, “In their finest moment, this is cheap pewter and bad zirconias. And they’re stamped ‘Trump.’”
And I just thought, “What does this really say about the man” that he said, “Here’s a great wedding gift,” and it’s just a bag of dog s---?
Charlie did have some kind words for his famous father, Martin Sheen, during the same interview, reports PEOPLE.
”He is my hero,” Charlie stated. “He is smart, compassionate and patient enough to know that at some point I'd find my way back home and he and my mom would be waiting for me.”
”He was worried, but supportive,” Charlie added.
Charlie also spoke about taking part in HIV drug trials, which he said were “an opportunity to stop the self-loathing and the ‘Why me?’ and be part of something genuinely important.”
Charlie compared his present life to his past bizarre behavior, which included making videos about having tiger blood.
”I’m in a great place,” Charlie told the talk show host. “I recognize myself by name but not by character. I get the shame shivers watching whatever incarnation of who I thought I was in those moments. If I could change any of it I would. It was like there was some measure of possession.”
