Police in Dallas, Texas are investigating Cleveland Browns quarterback, Johnny Manziel, after his ex-girlfriend told authorities he forced her into a car by dragging her by her hair and threatening to kill her.

Manziel denied the accusations from ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley, who first refused to cooperate with Fort Worth police during an initial investigation. She later decided to report the alleged assault and cooperate with Dallas Police Department.

"We've been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field," Cleveland Browns executive vice president of football operations, Sashi Brown, said in a statement.

“Johnny's continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization. His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time.”

The abuse allegedly occurred after the two began arguing about another woman at a Dallas hotel room. He refused to let her leave and proceeded to drag her by the hair and force her into a car.

"Shut up or I'll kill us both," he reportedly threatened while in the car.

Manziel denied the accusations from Crowley.

Crowley told authorities that she is afraid for her safety and drafted an order of protection against Manziel, WFAA reported.

Crowley and Manziel dated for two years and lived together for a short period of time before breaking up in December 2015.

"The Dallas Police Department has conducted the appropriate investigative follow-up to the report forwarded to us by the Fort Worth Police Department regarding an alleged incident involving Johnny Manziel," Dallas Police Department said in a statement.

"Investigative efforts to date have not resulted in the filing of a criminal complaint and the incident is determined to be closed. No further statement is expected at this time."
