Ariana Grande, the Nickelodeon teeny-bopper turned singer, apparently spent the fourth of July licking unsold donuts and claiming she hates America at a donut shop in Lake Elsinore, California.
A video (below) released by TMZ showed Grande visiting Wolfee Donut's with her boyfriend backup dancer Ricky Alvarez, trying to stealthily lick donuts. When a worker brought out a tray of fresh donuts, Grande exclaimed "What the fuck is that? I hate Americans. I hate America,” according to LAist.
Grande told BuzzFeed in a statement that her comments were out of context. “I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my county. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words,” she said.
“As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole.”
Grande claimed she was frustrated by childhood obesity in America. She has since pulled out of a Cincinnati “All-star” concert for Major League Baseball.
“As for why I cannot be at the MLB show, I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show. I hope to make it up to all those fans soon. That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words,” Grande said.
Joe Marin, the owner of Wolfee Donut's, told Hollywood Life that he wants an apology. "We are reaching out to the customers but it wasn't until the next morning when I watched the tape that I caught them licking and spitting, I call it spitting, on the doughnuts," Marin said.
