Umpire Andy Fletcher recently had to be held back by Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon and catcher David Ross while he tried to advance towards Cubs pitcher Jon Lester.
The bizarre incident (video below) happened on June 25 at Cubs-Dodgers game at Chicago's Wrigley Field.
NESN notes: "Fletcher called ball four on a pitch from Jon Lester in the second inning, and Lester appeared to either take issue with the call, the pitch or both. However, the Cubs left-hander stayed on the mound and didn't appear to make any sort of gesture toward or at Fletcher."
According to the Chicago Tribune, Lester later said:
"I didn't say anything directed at him. I don't know why (Fletcher) was so upset. I had my head down when I was yelling. He went AWOL. I don't know what was going on. It has nothing to do with umpire's strike zone."
