The host of the family-friendly show “Jeopardy!,” Alex Trebek has found himself almost in tears and nearly overcome in emotion when Dhruv Gaur, a contestant in this Monday’s show had no chance in winning the Final Jeopardy, wrote “We (heart) You, Alex,” in place of an answer.
Gaur had bet $1,995 of his $2,000 on the answer, which means he had threw away his chance at winning to honor Trebek. Trebek in return, had been surprised and was on the verge of choking up tears during the whole show because of Gaur’s heartfelt message.
The three challengers also wore purple ribbons in support of Trebek, who is currently battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The host has also been undergoing chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed last March with the illness.
A short while after that, the hashtag #WeLoveYouAlex became viral and trending, showing that there are more people who had also been moved by the actions and words of Gaur’s message.
As the viral hashtag kept on, Gaur continued his message on Twitter, writing:
“When Final Jeopardy came up, I could’ve tried to puzzle it together, but really, just kept thinking about Alex, and thought he should know. I’m just very grateful I got the opportunity to say what I know everyone was thinking. Sending all the love. #WeLoveYouAlex ”
A user wrote: “Me just watching Alex break down there #Jeopardy #weloveyoualex” while another said “Alex Trebek getting choked up during Final Jeopardy today messed me all the way up.”
Tom Harrington also posted in his tweet “Answer: Alex Trebek being moved by a contestant who can’t win. Question: What is beautiful?”
Trebek has shown to be a true professional, keeping himself together during the whole show despite it all.
