A waiter who came to the U.S. from the Middle East more than a year ago received a large tip from a customer at a restaurant in Denver on Nov. 9.
The woman wanted to show her support for immigrants, according to The Denver Post.
Osamah Ajour received a $100 tip on a bill of $23.61. The customer also wrote a note stating, “You belong here & I’m glad that you are here.”
Ajour said the woman had a brief conversation with him, asking what he felt about Trump’s election win and his threat to deport immigrants.
“I answered that I was hanging in there,” Ajour said.
Ajour chose not to identify the woman.
The good deed came to light when one of Ajour’s friends posted about the incident online.
“This is the America I know n love,” the person wrote, KDRV reported.
Ajour responded: “Brother you forgot to mention that I was a fantastic waiter! This lady made me happy today, I wish I get the chance to see her again, there're words deep in my heart left unspoken.”
The 24-year-old is Palestinian and moved to the U.S. from Jordan. Two of his uncles live in Colorado and one of them has been there for 30 years.
Ajour originally came to study computer science, but began working at the restaurant in April. The restaurant is run by Mahmoud Kassir, who came to the U.S. 30 years ago.
“This is America. This is our country, whether anybody likes it or not. I’ve lived here two thirds of my life and I’m here to stay and so are my kids,” Kassir told KDRV. “Our president-elect says what he [wants]. We keep going and move on and we don’t listen.”
