Westboro Baptist Church To Picket Liquor Store For Fred Phelps Sale (Video)

The Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket an Oklahoma liquor store for posting a sign mocking the passing of church founder Fred Phelps.

"Fred Phelps 1929-2014, Champagne 10% off! Not a coincidence,” says the sign at Moore Liquor in Moore, Okla.

“People have really responded positively to it,” store owner Bryan Kerr told KOCO-TV.

“I think it’s awesome. I think it’s a great sign.” said customer Roth Antonich.

“Champagne is a celebratory drink and so that’s why we gave 10 percent off,” said Kerr. “If they choose to celebrate the passing of a little hate from this world, they can do so and we’re happy to oblige here at Moore Liquor.”

@WBCSays announced their plan to picket Moore Liquor on Wednesday on their way to Fort Worth, Texas, to picket another church.

Kerr says he isn’t worried about it. In fact @MooreLiquor tweeted to the WBC asking them to, “Please send the ‘A’ team, not the scrubs. We’re gonna want a first-class protest.”

Kerr told HuffPost in an email that his parents told him not to speak ill of the dead, but he “couldn’t help feeling that the world was a better place without Fred Phelps.”

"He did so much to spread his special brand of hatred while bastardizing Christian principles that I thought it might be appropriate to recognize his lack of corporeal existence with some celebration. As a Christian myself, I truly hope that Fred found some peace with God and maybe even had a change of heart before passing,” Kerr wrote.
