Republican Congresswoman Jamie Herrera Beutler gave birth earlier today. The baby’s name is Abigail, but the congresswoman is calling her nothing short of a miracle.
Earlier this year, according to The Blaze, doctors informed the congresswoman that her unborn child was suffering from Potter’s Syndrome - a nearly always fatal kidney disease. Beutler was then informed that abortion was an option.
However, for this pro-life congresswoman, abortion was not an option. She stuck to her guns and simply prayed for a miracle. This is especially surprising considering that 90% of women who find their fetus is diagnosed with Down’s syndrome decide to abort.
In a tragic facebook post, the congresswoman announced last month, “The options we were offered were termination or ‘expectant management,’ that is, waiting for [the baby] to die.” Yet the Representative chose neither. She chose to remain hopeful. The Congresswoman even went back to work despite this devastating news.
Abigail, now only a couple hours old, “is considered by her doctors to likely be the first baby to survive a diagnosis previously considered fatal,” according to the office of Rep. Beutler.
Meanwhile, the proud congresswoman and new mother “is doing well, caring for her precious little daughter and recovering.”
