On the Liberty Counsel's 'Faith and Freedom' radio program, this week, hosts Matt Staver and Matt Barber attacked California law, SB-1172, which bans the use of gay reparative therapy on minors.
This type of therapy claims to turn gay people straight, but is not recognized as legitimate by the American Psychiatric Association or the American Psychological Association.
On the broadcast, Barber called SB-1172 a 'Sandusky Law' after convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky, reports RightWingWatch.org.
Barber said: "That's why I've been calling them Sandusky laws because that's exactly what they are. They literally take somebody who has been sexually abused and say 'there is only one result that can end from this, you are now either gay or transgendered, there is no way out, no help for you from any licensed therapist.'"
However, California Law SB-1172 never forces any victim of child molestation to identify themselves as gay or transgender.
The new law, which will take effect on Jan. 1, 2013, states that no mental health provider will be able to provide therapy that seeks "to change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex."
