Top Iranian Official Mehdi Taeb Claims Jews Used Magic and Sorcery to Cripple Country

A top official to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed Jews for using their powers of sorcery to weaken the Islamist Republic.

“The Jews have the greatest powers of sorcery, and they make use of this tool,” Mehdi Taeb told students at a religious ceremony last month, according to a report by the Middle East Media Research Institute.

During his April 20th remarks in Ahwaz, a city located along Iran’s western border with Iraq, Taeb also said the Zionists were responsible for “all the measures that have been brought against” the Islamist Republic. He added that Zionists have been able to make the United States a “tool” – one which they are currently using to enforce the strict economic sanctions that are crippling the country.

Taeb then continued the discussion by declaring Jews also attempted to use their “magic” in 2009 to oust Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during the country’s presidential elections.

"So far, they have not used the full scope of their sorcery against us. Sorcery was the final means to which they resorted during the Ahmadinejad era, but they were defeated,” he said. “This ability of the Jews was eliminated by Iran. Five years ago they tried to oust Ahmadinejad by this means.”

This isn’t the first time a top Iranian leader has offered controversial remarks in regards to the world's Jewish population.

In February of 2009, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sparked an international outrage by declaring the Holocaust to be “myth.”

“Today, they have created a myth in the name of Holocaust and consider it to be above God, religion, and the prophets,” he said in front of thousands of people during a speech in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan.

Even before that, Ahmadinejad created widespread anger in 2008 after he called for Israel to be wiped off the map completely.
