It’s not easy being good looking.
If you want proof, just ask three men who were recently deported from Saudi Arabia to Abu Dhabi. The men were attending the annual Janadriyah Heritage and Cultural Festival when they were suddenly kicked out of the festival by Saudi religious police. Why were they kicked out, you ask?
Because they were “too handsome.”
According to the Arab newspaper Epitaph, "A festival official said the three Emiratis were taken out on the grounds they are too handsome and that the Commission [for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vices] members feared female visitors could fall for them.”
The Epitaph added that “the festival's management took urgent measures to deport the three to Abu Dhabi."
Also at the festival, a religious policeman was escorted out by the Saudi Arabian National Guard after he stormed the stand of an unnamed female Emerati artist. The artist was not identified, but officials say her visit to the festival was not planned.
“Her visit to the UAE stand was a coincidence as it was not included in the programme which we had already provided to the festival's management," said Saeed Al Kaabi, head of delegation for the United Arab Emirates at the festival.
The Saudi religious police, called the Mutaween, are tasked with enforcing Sharia law as defined by the Saudi Arabian government.
So there you have it. Being handsome isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. After being deported, the three men reportedly called Derek Zoolander seeking advice on how to deal with being just too good looking for life. Just kidding, but I would have loved to hear that conversation.
