Recently when the Notre Dame Cathedral was ablaze in France, many people with Arab names celebrated and laughed at the tragedy on Facebook outraging many who saw the behavior as highly disrespectful.
A twitter user named Damien Rieu tweeted “guess who is enjoying Notre Dame’s fire” along with a video that showed Facebook users with Arab names responding positively to Notre Dame’s demise.
Rieu tweeted more examples of users laughing at the blaze that destroyed the 850-year-old cathedral. One Muslim Facebook user named Mohamed Mouara wrote “God is great” in French which sparked a huge debate among many Facebook users.
According to Jihad Watch Director Robert Spencer, many Muslims “believe that the ruins and destruction of non-Muslim structures testifies to the truth of Islam.” Spencer further notes that the Quran “suggests that the destroyed remnants of ancient non-Muslim civilizations are a sign of Allah’s punishment of those who rejected his truth.”
Experts believe that the Notre Dame Cathedral fire began by accident rather than being tied to any efforts by terrorists.
