The sheriff’s office in Rutherford County, North Carolina decided to add ‘In God We Trust’ decals to all of its marked patrol cars.
According to Sheriff Chris Francis, the department looked at the addition of the national motto as “an opportunity to show our patriotism.”
All 50 of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office’s marked patrol cars will soon be adorned with “In God We Trust” decals, which has been the U.S.’ national motto since 1956.
“I want to make sure that my deputy sheriffs know what ‘In God We Trust’ means,” Francis told WHNS. “And how blessed we are to be citizens in America, to live in Western North Carolina and to be able to support our nation’s motto.”
According to Francis, the final decision was made to add the decals to patrol cars after the Fairview Baptist Church volunteered to donate them.
“I am very appreciative of the church’s donation that has allowed this project to get underway,” Francis told WSPA.
Francis said that he has heard of other departments looking to follow his lead and that he hopes they follow through to “show what they believe in.”
