The Church of Scientology has been accused of Photoshopping a picture of an event in Portland held over the weekend, where the church accounted for 2,500 of supporters by copying and pasting extra people into the image.
The right side of the picture is an obviously doctored, even to the amateur eye. In one picture, a line of rented trees crosses the street – in another picture, at a different angle, a crowd covered in confetti stands where the trees are.
Since their membership has begun to fall, the Church of Scientology has scrambled to collect new members.
“When you're in the business of convincing people to buy into a faith created by a sci-fi writer,” Leslie Horn of Gizmodo said, “you need all the spin you can get.”
The church has a history of photoshopping photos of their events, as they did in 1999 during a 50th anniversary celebration of scientology in Los Angeles Sports Arena.
