Rev. Franklin Graham recently announced his Decision America Tour, which will travel to all 50 states in 2016 to encourage Christians to vote for Christians, and to urge Christians to run for political positions on federal, state and local levels (video below).
In an op-ed penned for Charisma News, Graham recalled Nehemiah, from the Bible, who supervised the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem in 52 days even though he faced opposition from Samaritans, Ammonites, Arabs and Philistines.
Graham claimed: "America's walls of biblical morality are crumbling," and "Christianity and our religious freedoms are under siege. Progressives and secularists want to see God removed from everything and to burn every gate of protection."
Graham didn't say which religious freedoms were "under siege," or name any progressives and secularists who wanted "God removed from everything."
Graham told Christians that they needed to take a bold stand like Nehemiah, and cry out on behalf of all Americans to God. Graham said the dates and cities of his Decision America Tour would be announced in October.
Graham added that he would not endorse any specific candidates (he can't in order to keep the tax-exempt status of his ministries, noted Americans United in 2013), but stated: "Christians should be going to the polls and voting in record numbers. Your vote does matter. Millions of evangelical Christians did not vote in the last presidential election. If Christians continue to leave voting to others, there may be no turning this country around."
Graham said that during his Decision America Tour he would "urge Christians" to run "for political office at all levels—local, state, and federal. We need Christian judges, Christian assembly members, and Christian mayors. We need Christian clerks of court, school board members, governors, and, of course, senators and representatives."
In addition to co-opting Nehemiah for Christian purposes, Graham also called on Christians to obey 2 Chronicles 7:14 from the Bible, which was specifically addressed to Jewish people in the Bible.
Graham added that he would be trying to convert people to Christianity during his tour, but warned: "Just as Nehemiah's people were threatened, this effort will be under attack."
Graham didn't say who would be attacking his tour, but urged Christians to start prayer groups and to "[s]upport Christians running for office in your city and state."
Graham also posted a video for the Decision America Tour on a page of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's website and on the organization's YouTube page.
