The Alabama Public Service Commission started a meeting on power rates last week with a prayer by John Delwin Jordan, who prayed against gay marriage and abortion rights.
The prayer (video below) appeared to be Christian and did not include any other faiths.
Jordan, who was there to testify for the Prattville Tea Party, was introduced by Twinkle Cavanaugh, head of the Alabama Public Service Commissions, noted RightWingWatch.org.
Jordan first asked for a show of hands "to see how many people believe in prayer. How many people believe that God answers prayers? How many people need prayer? Then we turn to God in prayer."
His prayer included: “We’ve taken you out of our schools, We’ve taken you out of our prayers, we’ve murdered your children, we’ve said it’s OK to have same-sex marriage, God. We have sinned."
Jordan also prayed for "divine wisdom" for the Alabama Public Service Commission, but did not mention how the commission allows Alabama Power to write off an $8 million salary for CEO Charles McCrary as "operations and maintenance," noted AL.com.
Nor did Jordan's prayer note how the Alabama Public Service Commission allows Alabama Power to charge higher than normal rates and rake in hundreds of millions that could be saved by residents.
