Pope Francis Calls For End To 'Genocide' Against Christians In Middle East

During a recent speech in Bolivia, Pope Francis urged listeners to pay attention to the mass murders of Christians in Middle Eastern countries, with millions fleeing their homelands because of terrorist groups and searching for safer conditions.

“Today we are dismayed to see how in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world many of our brothers and sisters are persecuted, tortured and killed for their faith in Jesus,” the Pope said, referencing the numerous attacks and deaths of Christians in Egypt and Libya earlier this year.

“In this third world war, waged piecemeal, which we are now experiencing, a form of genocide is taking place, and it must end,” he said.

The Pope was in Latin America to tour three of the area’s poorest nations – Bolivia, Paraguay and Ecuador, Breitbart News reported.

Pope Francis called the current situation in the Middle East “desperate” and asked the audience, “Are we seeing the end of Christianity?”

“We are committed come what may, we will keep going to the end, but it looks as though the end could be very near,” he added.

There is no way of knowing how many Christians have been murdered by “lone wolf” terrorists, the Islamic State (ISIS) or other radical Islamic and Muslim extremists, according to Breitbart News. The deaths of Christians by ISIS have been well-documented, as members of the hostile terror group have utilized social media to showcase their murders online. The terrorist organization reportedly films the murders as they occur and posts them to viewing sites, such as YouTube.

It was just last year, June 2014, when ISIS invaded Mosul, Iraq, the second largest city in the country. Mosul had also been home to Muslims and Christians for 2,000 years, who lived together in peace during that time.

During the invasion, it was reported that ISIS was executing those who they believed to be Christian or simply working against the Islamic State. One report said even a 1-year-old child was murdered by the terror group.

As many as 500,000 citizens of the city fled after the takeover, with some speaking to reporters on the scene. According to the eyewitnesses, members of ISIS forced citizens to convert to Islam, pay a protection tax, or be killed.

The terror group is now notoriously known for beheading foreign soldiers and innocent citizens during their reign through Iraq and Syria. Since 2014, numerous abductions and killings have occurred at the hands of ISIS, including 88 Christians who were captured in Libya just last month.

In February, 21 Christians were beheaded on a beach in Libya, JPost reported. Later, ISIS kidnapped 200 Christians from a small town in northern Syria and burned an 80-year-old Christian woman alive.
