Pope Francis gave away thousands of pillboxes containing rosaries on Sunday telling followers that prayer is medicine for the heart.
Speaking from his studio window, Francis held up one of the boxes designed to look like a packet of pills with a picture of a human heart. He joked that he is a pharmacist prescribing prayer.
Francis said reciting the rosary is "spiritual medicine" that is "good for the heart."
Traditionally 80,000 tourists and Romans gather in St. Peters Square for Francis’ weekly appearances on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.
