Pastor Tells Women Who Had Abortion: 'Jesus' (Video)

Pastor Garrett Kell shared some advice for women who have had an abortion in a video (below) on June 27.

The video was produced by the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and posted on the organization's YouTube page.

Kell says in the video: "For somebody who has had an abortion, if I had to give them one word, it would be 'Jesus.'"

Kell goes on to say how abortion has been part of his past and his family's history: "I personally took part in an abortion."

Kell doesn't say what he actually did in the abortion, but says that whatever "rebellion" people are in, their only hope is Jesus who loves them even if they have killed their own child as he did.

Kell tells viewers to listen to the words of Jesus because Jesus will give them a new heart when they become Christians.

Charisma News reported in 2015 that a study by LifeWay Research found that 70 percent of women who had abortions identify as Christians, while 43 percent were attending church at least once a month (or more) when they had their abortion.

The poll also found that only 7 percent talked about their abortion with anyone else at church, while 76 percent said the church had no influence over their decision to have an abortion.

The survey also stated that 65 percent believed that church members would judge a pregnant single woman, 54 percent thought churches oversimplified pregnancy decisions, 41 percent said the church was able to help women decide what to do if they have an unwanted pregnancy, and 30 percent thought the church gave accurate advice regarding pregnancy options.

Scott McConnell, vice president of LifeWay Research, said at the time: "Women are perceiving judgment from the church, and that's probably partly because there are clear teachings in the Bible including about how and why we make judgments. However, if they don't start experiencing something different than what they've seen in the past, these numbers aren't going to change."
