Pastor Craig Conner claimed on August 9 that if the U.S. government defunded "evil" Planned Parenthood of its "$540 million a year" then the U.S. "could get out of debt immediately" (video below).
Conner was preaching to the First Baptist Church in Panama City, Florida, when he made his fiscal prediction, reports RawStory.com.
Conner asked his congregation how Planned Parenthood was getting taxpayer money, but was apparently unaware that President Nixon authorized the Title X funding program in 1970.
Conner claimed he talked to God about it and threatened to stop paying taxes:
And honestly, I was talking to the Lord about this just the other day and I said, “Lord, I can’t continue this. You know, if Planned Parenthood is not defunded, I may just stop paying taxes.”
I know that I'll go to jail for it, but friend it breaks my heart to know that when I send my check in to the IRS, they are taking money out of my check I send to them, and they are using it for this evil purpose.
Conner then explained his debt plan:
How did we ever get here? Friend, you want to talk about reducing the national debt? We could reduce it overnight if they would defund this evil organization and put it on the national debt. Man, we could get out of debt immediately if they would do that.
“Friend, it must go because Planned Parenthood is to children what ISIS is to Christians,” Conner added. “It’s an extreme threat.”
Conner also stated that God released the undercover videos about Planned Parenthood (that were edited to show the organization in a bad light).
According to CNSNews.com, Planned Parenthood did receive $540.6 million in taxpayer dollars in 2013, but TreasuryDirect.gov has the national debt at over $18 trillion.
The Friendly Atheist calculates that it would take about 34,000 years to cover the national debt by defunding Planned Parenthood, assuming the national debt doesn't increase from this moment on.
