A new documentary film entitled "The Muslims Are Coming!" takes a comedic and serious look at bigotry and paranoia in America as seen through the eyes of several Muslim stand-up comedians.
According to the film's website TheMuslimsAreComing.com, the movie "follows a band of Muslim-American comedians as they visit big cities, small towns, rural villages, and everything in between to combat Islamophobia" (video below).
The film, co-directed by Muslim comedians Dean Obeidallah and Negin Farsad, shows how some Americans truly believe that all Muslims want to kill them and some of the backlash the comedians get from fellow Muslims, who are not always entertained by their jokes.
Obeidallah writes in New York Daily News:
While traveling the country for our comedy tour, we did more than just free stand-up shows. We tried to meet as many people as possible. We visited gun shows, cafes, bowling alleys and more.
We even played a game on the streets of Alabama called “name that religion,” where we read people quotes from the New Testament, Old Testament and the Koran and asked them to guess which holy book it was from.
The flick features interviews with Jon Stewart, Rachel Maddow, Lewis Black, CNN's Soledad O'Brien, Janeane Garofalo and more celebs who talk about the irrational fear that some Americans have of Muslims.
