Mat Staver, attorney for Kentucky clerk Kim Davis and founder of the Liberty Counsel, claimed in July that the U.S. Supreme Court's same-sex marriage ruling would take the U.S. "into the very pit of Hell" (video below).
Staver made his prediction during a speech at the Reclaiming America for Christ conference in Moore, Oklahoma, notes RightWingWatch.
"We need to stop playing charades. We need to stop the fictitious charade game thinking that five individuals can re-write God's natural, created order of marriage as a union of a man and a woman, and 320 million Americans are simply just going to follow them like the Pied Piper off the cliff into the very pit of Hell!"
A man and woman are still allowed to get married under the ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, which gets its authority from the supremacy clause in the U.S. Constitution.
"If that's what they think, they have something else coming! Because as for me and my household, I will not obey those five! I will obey God rather than man and they have shaken their fist in the face of the Creator and we must resist that.
"That's a grave sin. There will be judgment on those five unless they repent. You cannot shake your first in the face of the Creator without consequences of his creation."
The Associated Press reported that Staver's Liberty Counsel lost yet another motion on behalf of Davis on Sept. 17. This time, the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals refused their request to delay issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples through Davis' clerks in her office while Davis' case works its way through the courts.
