Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, Tennessee Finally Allowed to Open

In Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro will finally open on Friday after the U.S. Justice Department sued Rutherford County.

After a two year legal battle, arson and a bomb threat, Rutherford County, Tennessee officials issued a temporary occupancy permit allowing the building to be used while a permanent permit is pending, the Associated Press reports.

Islamic Center board member Saleh Sbenaty told the Associated Press:  “We’re thrilled. We hope everybody will be as happy and thrilled as we are.”

Kevin Fisher, the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit to stop the construction of the mosque, said: “History will one day judge whether we were wrong about this mosque, or whether we were right all along.”

Fisher claimed Islam wasn’t a religion in an effort to stop the construction of the mosque.
