Idaho Won't Prosecute Faith-Healing Parents When Sick Kids Die (Video)

The State of Oregon removed religious-defense laws in 2011 that protected faith-healing families who allowed their kids to die without traditional medical care.

Since then, there have been four cases in which parents have been prosecuted for refusing their kids medical care and opting for faith healing instead.

According to, in nearby Idaho, 12 children have died from faith-healing parents since 2011, but no one has been prosecuted.

The parents are all part of the Followers of Christ, which also made news in Oregon for failed faith-healing deaths of children.

KATU, a Portland TV station, recently reported on the Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Boise, Idaho, where the Followers of Christ faith healers bury their dead. A staggering 25 percent of them are kids (video below).

The graves include a 6-day-old baby who died from untreated pneumonia, a 2-year-old who died of pneumonia and a baby girl who died after 20 minutes. The infant didn't get any pre-natal care, according to the coroner’s report.

The baby girl died in the home of Mark Jerome, her grandfather, who defended the family's failed faith healing.

“That's the way we believe,” Jerome told KATU. “We believe in God and the way God handles the situation."

Dan Sevy, the father of a 14-year-old boy named Rocky who died, defended his family's religious freedom.

"What I will talk to you about is the law,” Sevy told KATU. “I would like to remind you this country was founded on religious freedom, and on freedom in general. I would like to say, I picture freedom as a full object. It's not like you take 'a' freedom away. It's that you chip at the entire thing. Freedom is freedom. Whenever you try to restrict any one person, then you're chipping away at freedom. Yours and mine."

Sevy then claimed there was a conspiracy against Christians.

“All I see is an aggressive campaign against Christianity in general, it’s amazing to me in this day and age where Muslims get soft pedaled and Christians are under attack," added Sevy. "It just blows my mind.”
