Rep. Vance McAllister (R-La.) has described himself as a happily-married "Christian conservative," but was reportedly caught on a surveillance video kissing a female staffer.
The Ouachita Citizen published the black and white video (below) that was recorded on Dec. 23, 2013 outside of Rep. McAllister's district office in Monroe, La.
According to The Ouachita Citizen, the woman in the video is Rep. McAllister’s district scheduler Melissa Peacock.
"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness," Rep. McAllister said in a statement today, noted NOLA.com.
"I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve," added Rep. McAllister. "Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed."
Rep. McAllister ran for Congress last November in a special election and was endorsed by Willie Robertson of the "Duck Dynasty" reality TV show, reports The Hill.
Peacock reportedly began working for Rep. McAllister soon after he was elected last year. Peacock and her husband Heath both contributed to Rep. McAllister's campaign.
Rep. McAllister and Heath were long-time friends who worked together for 16 years.
