Fox News host Lauren Green seemed stunned on Friday that Muslim author Reza Aslan has written a scholarly book about Jesus Christ.
During her interview with the Iranian-American writer, Green repeatedly questioned Aslan’s motives for writing a book about “the founder of Christianity,” noted Buzzfeed.com (video below).
"I am a scholar of religions with four degrees, including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades, who also just happens to be a Muslim,” Aslan said. "It's not that I'm just some Muslim writing about Jesus. I am an expert with a Ph.D. in the history of religion."
However, Green was not convinced.
She consistently badgered Aslna, who repeated his academic qualifications and mentioned that his wife and family are Christians.
Green then read a question from viewer Taylor King.
"So your book is written with clear bias and you’re trying to say it’s academic?" King wrote. "That’s like having a Democrat write a book about why Reagan wasn’t a good Republican. It just doesn’t work.’" Green then asked, "What do you say to that?”
“It would be like a Democrat with a Ph.D. in Reagan who has been studying his life and history for two decades, writing a book about Reagan,” Aslan replied.
“But then why would a Democrat want to promote Democracy by writing about a Republican?” Green asked.
Aslan tried to explain to the mystified Green that as a religious scholar, he actually writes about Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and other faiths.
Green also accused Aslan of not disclosing his Muslim background while discussing Christianity in his new book, but Aslan said the second page of his book mentions he is Muslim and he has identified himself as such in numerous interviews.
