'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Movie Promotes Abuse, Claim Christian Groups (Video)

The film 'Fifty Shades of Grey" had a massive opening at the box office.

According to Deadline.com, the film earned $81 million dollars from Thursday (evening preview) to Sunday. On Valentine’s Day, 68 percent of the audience was female.

The popularity of the bestselling book (100 million sales worldwide) and, now, the movie has outraged some Christian activists.

Lynn Stevens, of the Christian organization We Are Cherished Ohio, told The Columbus Dispatch that the movie “glamorizes and glorifies domestic violence.”

“The popularity of this movie will send the wrong message that this is what women want,” added Stevens. “No woman wants that. They want to be cherished and cared for and loved.”

The film features consensual BDSM sex between two adults (video below).

The Christian-based American Family Association, an anti-gay organization, is calling on movie theaters not to show the film because it “borders on pornography and glamorizes abuse.”

“Remind the faithful of the beauty of the Church’s teaching on the gift of sexual intimacy in marriage, the great dignity of women, and the moral reprehensibility of all domestic violence and sexual exploitation,” Bishop Richard Malone wrote in a letter to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops last week, noted Religion News Service.

Jim Daly, head of the Christian ministry Focus on the Family, lamented that a high number of Christian women have enjoyed the bestseller.
