Liberty Counsel head Mat Staver recently warned that if gay marriage is allowed in the U.S., then everyone will marry someone of the same sex and society "would just simply cease to exist."
According to RightWingWatch.org, Staver made this unproven claim while speaking to Vic Eliason of VCY America during a radio show last week (audio below).
"If you ultimately promoted same-sex marriage and everyone started to go towards same-sex marriage, what would happen to society?" stated Staver. "It would just simply cease to exist. Moreover, you'd have rampant increase in diseases."
"Already, you have rampant increase in diseases among same-sex activities, specifically men having sex with men," added Staver. "Same-sex marriage, same-sex relationships is destructive to individuals and it's destructive to our very social fabric."
Judge Richard Shelby ruled last Friday that Utah's ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. He ruled today that the Utah state government, which appealed the ruling, could not halt gay marriage until the appeals process concludes, notes USA Today.
