This observation may not win over too many friends at the Vatican. In an interview with Parade.com, rock star Elton John says he believes Jesus Christ was gay. When asked for his take on Christianity, Sir Elton said:
"I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East -- you're as good as dead."
John, who is openly gay himself and married to partner David Furnish, has not yet commented about his controversial remarks to Parade.com. It's still unclear if he was serious, joking around or simply trying to push buttons with certain religious groups -- specifically those condemning homosexuality -- who will undoubtedly find his comments offensive.
The interview covered other topics such as drug abuse and relationships.
