Egyptian Cleric Says Muslim Men Can Spy on Women Showering

Osama al-Qusi, an Islamic cleric in Egypt, recently claimed that men can spy on women while they are taking showers.

al-Qusi added that a man must have a sincere interest in marrying a woman whose privacy he violates.

"If you were really honest and wanted to marry that woman, and you were able to hide and watch her in secret, and see the things that she wouldn't usually let you see before marrying her, then it is acceptable as long as your intentions are pure," al-Qusi said in an video, reported

“One of the Prophet’s companions did that. Some disapproved and told him, ‘How do you do that when you’re one of the Prophet’s companions?’ The Prophet answered, ‘If you can see something that would make you want to marry her then go ahead and do it,’” added al-Qusi.

However, this strange instruction seems to violate Islamic teaching that a woman can only show her hands and face to males whom she is not married to.

In response, Mohamed Mokhtar, who is Egypt's minister for religious affairs, told, "Where is the glory and masculinity in watching a woman shower? Would you allow this to happen to your daughter?"

According to The Guardian, Mokhtar added that he is planning to ban atheists and Islamic extremists along with the tens of thousands of unlicensed preachers whom he has already banned from working in mosques.
