D.C. Lobbyist Plans Protest Against Dallas Cowboys for Signing Michael Sam

Jack Burkman, a Washington D.C. lobbyist, is planning a protest against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys recently signed openly-gay football player Michael Sam, who was cut by the St. Louis Rams.

Sam will play on the Cowboys' practice team, if he passes a physical exam, notes RawStory.com.

Burkman issued a press release yesterday that claimed "thousands of right wing Christians" would protest at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tx., this Sunday.

“We had planned to protest in St. Louis on Sunday. Now we’ll rally in Dallas instead,” stated Burkman. “We cannot just stand idly by as Christian values and morals are trampled. We will do whatever we can to preserve family values in this country.”

Burkman claims his group has more than 3 million people in 41 states.

“[Dallas Cowboys owner] Jerry Jones has betrayed American values, Christian values, and his own city’s values. The people of Dallas–and Christians all across this land–are about to make him pay a huge financial price. The Cowboys are no longer America’s team,” added Burkman.

Burkman wrote legislation to ban gay players from the NFL earlier this year, but his openly-gay brother Jim told The Huffington Post, "I think the idea that he is pushing legislation that is just hurtful and ridiculous is just plain stupid. He is not a legislator and he can’t really push legislation. I don’t think there are any cosponsors for a bill. It is just an attention grab and a media grab to pander to those folks who pay him to lobby on their behalf.”

CBS Dallas Fort-Worth reports that Cowboys' fans are mixed on Sam's arrival even though the team has failed to win a Super Bowl since 1996.

One worried fan recently told 105.3 FM in Dallas, “I don’t want my kids looking up to me and say, 'Daddy, what does that mean that he’s gay?'”
