Anti-Obamacare Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) says God is at the helm in the government shudown.
During the Values Voter Summit last weekend, Cruz spoke with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody about his role in the shutdown, reported Raw Story.
“Where do you see God in all of this fight that’s going on in your life right now?” Brody asked.
“Well, David, you know at every stage, my prayer to God is that His will be done,” Cruz responded. “As it will be.”
The interview was presented Monday on CBN’s “The 700 Club” during which televangelist Pat Robertson referred to the impending default as “countdown to Armageddon.”
“What we’re looking at is a party of people who are spendaholics: $17 trillion in debt, ladies and gentlemen,” Robertson said of Democrats. “It’s insupportable. The interest on the debt is going to be mounting and encompass the entire federal budget pretty soon. Something’s got to be done.”
He said Democrats are “like heroin addicts” and want to spend more and more.
Fox News host Mike Huckabee told Brody that Cruz’s heart was in the right place, but he ultimately helped the Democrats.
“We gave the Democrats one incredibly early Christmas gift,” said Huckabee. “I’m not going to fault Ted. He believes what he was doing was going to be helpful. But at the end of the day, you look and you ask, ‘Are we any close to defunding Obamacare are ridding ourselves of it than we were?’ The answer is no.”
Cruz maintains that the hecklers in the audience during his Values Voters speech were “planted” there by the Democratic Party.
“I’m encouraged by that,” Cruz added, “because it shows they are afraid ... of the American people hearing the truth.”
