Christian radio host Linda Harvey recently repeated a false claim on her program about a transgender teen who supposedly harassed girls in a Florence, Colo. high school bathroom and locker room.
The story was started by the Pacific Justice Institute (PJI), a conservative law firm in California, which has since changed their story and now claims the transgender teen "inherently" harassed the girls simply by being transgender.
The transgender student, identified only as "Jane Doe" for privacy reasons, has been placed on suicide watch because of the false rumors spread by the PJI and conservative media outlets.
Cristan Williams of The TransAdvocate reported:
This afternoon I was notified that the family discerned that Jane needed immediate professional intervention due to the scope of suicidal ideation Jane has recently exhibited. The family is now working with specialists in Denver to address Jane’s needs.
According to RightWingWatch.org, Harvey falsely claimed on her radio show yesterday (audio below) that there was a "legitimate complaint" about the transgender student who has "apparently been harassing some of the actual, biological girls."
Harvey also suggested that the school had not performed a legitimate investigation into the allegations, which it did and found no harassment had taken place.
"Several girls at a school in Colorado are finding out just exactly what is involved in transgender rights," stated Harvey. "An older boy has been entering the girls’ restroom at Florence High School in Florence, Colo., claiming he’s a female and then he’s apparently been harassing some of the actual, biological girls."
"But when the girls’ families contacted the school, did this legitimate complaint receive respectful attention from officials? Not exactly," added Harvey. "The school is defending this aggressive boy and his rights and the privacy rights of the girls are being waved away as not that important."
