A Christian mom recently made a video (below) in which she broke down in tears while describing her experience listening to the 2015 rap song "Norf Norf" by Vince Staples on her local Top 40 radio station.
The mom recalled how she allowed her 11-year-old daughter to turn the car radio to the station during a trip to school, notes RawStory.com.
She remembered the good old days of radio when "Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys, and N’SYNC" were the "top hits."
However, the mother was not happy by what she recently heard on the radio and didn't hear:
This rap song comes on, and, guys, I could not believe what I was hearing. This is on our local radio station. This crap is being played. I couldn’t even believe the words that I was listening to. As a mom, it infuriated me, why is this on here? Obviously the cuss words were bleeped out, but I’m not stupid. We can dictate what they're saying, right. I started to get tears in my eyes it upset me so much.
The mom said that she looked up the lyrics, and began to break down in tears. The distraught parent said she was going to recite the lyrics, including the curse words that she didn't hear played on the radio.
The mother went on to recite the lyrics, which included the N-word several times, but she was most upset that the song mentioned running from the police, the word "abortion" and cutting school.
"That was on our top hit radio station!" the mom said as she pounded her hand on a table. "Yes, the cuss words were bleeped out, but did you just hear that? My daughter never listen to that radio station again, ever! I am shaking I cannot believe that filth is on there!"
Genius notes that Staples was singing about the harsh realities that he faced while growing up in the gang areas of Long Beach, California. Staples donated money to a YMCA in Long Beach so that kids might have a brighter future.
