Christian Leaders To Defy Laws On Abortion, Gays (Video)

Several conservative Christian leaders have signed a "Declaration of Dependence upon God and His Holy Bible," which is a promise to defy U.S. laws regarding abortion and gay marriage (video below).

The declaration, which has been posted online for people to sign, would only allow abortion when the mother's life is in danger (no rape or incest exceptions), and only recognizes marriage between a man and a woman.

The declaration states: "We therefore respectfully reserve the right to refuse any mandate by the government that forces us to fund or support abortion. We also oppose same-sex marriage, polygamy, bestiality, and all other forms of sexual perversion prohibited by Holy Scripture."

The declaration concludes its defiance of U.S. law with a promise to "choose to obey God rather than man."

Right Wing Watch notes that Colorado Springs pastor Andrew Womack made a video in which he asserted that God inspired him to write the declaration:

In the last year or so, we've had some legislation and some things done and I believe Satan is fighting for the heart and soul of this nation. I've been very disappointed, as I'm sure many of you have, and I was praying and asking the Lord what to do. And I believe I was divinely inspired to write this Declaration of Dependence that you see on the wall behind me.

Womack provided no evidence that his declaration was "divinely inspired" by God, but said he was going to spend half a million dollars to promote the declaration.

The declaration signers include: controversial Christian historian David Barton; Jerry Boykin of the Family Research Council; James Dobson (who founded Focus on the Family); faith healer and televangelist Kenneth Copeland; controversial prosperity pastor Creflo Dollar; Kelly Shackelford, who heads the First Liberty Institute (Christian activist law firm); and Republican Oklahoma state Sen. Nathan Dahm, who wrote a failed bill that would have made abortion a felony.
