Christian: God Causes Disasters Per U.S. Policy (Video)

Controversial ChristianhistorianDavid Barton told students at Charis Bible College in Colorado on Sept. 30 that God was likely controlling the weather and natural disasters per U.S. policy towards Israel (video below).

"God looks at public policies and says, 'That's not good, I can't bless that; that's good, I can bless that,'" Barton, who established a "School of Practical Government" at the college, said, according to Right Wing Watch. "So it's by public policies, how they conform to His standards. And that what you see with Elijah. Remember when Elijah confronted Ahab and Jezebel, He said, 'You guys, because of your wicked public policies, you brought a curse on the nation.'"

Barton, who made a similar weather assertion in 2013, went on to note that Elijah was upset about religious persecution, governmental eminent domain and suborning perjury.

The Biblical incident Barton referred to occurred in 1 Kings 18, when Elijah was upset because of some prophets of Baal, another god, according to Bible Gateway. Elijah convinced Ahab to have the prophets of Baal slaughtered, just as Jezebel killed the prophets of Elijah's god.

Barton added that Elijah told the Israelites they were not going to have rain for three and a half years, which showed that God was controlling the weather according to public policy, Right Wing Watch reports.

Barton then tried to link God's control of the weather in the Bible 2,000 years ago to the present day in the U.S., which is never mentioned in the Bible:

If you want to do a study of weather in the Bible, you will see how often good weather is attached to righteousness, bad weather is attached to unrighteousness. You find example after example in the Scriptures, whether it's drought or flood or famine, whether it's rain or hail or fire, there's just all these examples of that. Now, do we believe that today?

I don't know, but it's in the Bible. What if the weather is dependent on what we do? Maybe we do a really lousy job of handling the weather.

Barton went on to say that the 10 costliest events in U.S. insurance history, three of the four largest tornado outbreaks and the two largest terrorism events, "all occurred within just days after after America took a stand against Israel and told Israel she needs to give up her land."

Barton then cited three books that supposedly show the correlation in terms of timing between natural disasters in the U.S. and whenever America takes a "bad stand toward Israel."

Haaretz, Israel's oldest newspaper, noted in 2012 that the U.S. has provided nearly $100 billion in military aid to Israel since 1962, per a Congressional report. Israel has reportedly received more cumulative aid from the U.S., since the end of World War II, than any other country.
