Catholic Leaders Outraged over Kate Upton's "Nun-kini"

Publish date:

All aboard the outrage train! Catholic League spokesperson Bill Donohue is up in arms over a scene from the forthcoming Three Stooges movie wherein ultra-hot swimsuit model Kate Upton dons a revealing outfit dubbed the “nun-kini.”

Upton plays the voluptuous Sister Bernice in the film, a casting choice that has more than a few Catholic officials raising eyebrows. During the scene in question she appears in a skimpy black bikini and traditional nun’s habit.

“In the 1950s Hollywood generally avoided crude fare and was respectful of religion,” said Donohue. “Today it specializes in crudity and trashes Christianity, especially Catholicism. The [Three Stooges] movie is not just another remake: It is a cultural marker of sociological significance, and what is says about the way we’ve changed is not encouraging. The TV show never mocked nuns or showed infants urinating in the face of the Stooges. This film does.”

Unsurprisingly, 20th Century Fox came out in full defense of their film as well as Upton’s participation.

“The nuns that Mr. Donohue alludes to, are in fact, caring, heroic characters in the movie, albeit within the framework of a very broad comedy,” a Fox spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter. “And as far as the nun attire, I think we did the audience a favor by letting Kate Upton wear the nun-kini rather than (co-star) Larry David - it could have gone either way.”

Can’t say I disagree with that point. I suspect, after checking out the pictures below, neither will you.
