Anti-LGBT Wedding Cake Baker Posts About Our Culture's 'Two Huge Lies' (Video)

The Christian baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple has posted to social media “two huge lies” embraced by contemporary culture.

Melissa Klein, owner of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, wrote on her Facebook page:

“Our culture has accepted 2 huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. Second is that to love someone means that you must agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense.

“You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate,” Klein concluded her post.

Klein’s Facebook post comes a week after she openly cried at the Values Voter Summit over the closing of her business, reports Huffington Post. Klein and her husband, Aaron, have faced severe backlash from their refusal in January 2013 to make a cake for lesbian couple Rachel Cryer and Laurel Bowman.

Cryer and Bowman filed a civil rights complaint against Sweet Cakes by Melissa. The state of Oregon agreed, and ruled that the bakery had violated their civil rights, reports The Blaze.

The complaint was found valid under the Oregon Equality Act of 2007. The Bureau of Labor and Industries released a statement that read in part:

“Under Oregon law, Oregonians may not be denied service based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The law provides an exemption for religious organizations and schools, but does not allow private business owners to discriminate based on sexual orientation, just as they cannot legally deny service based on race, sex, age, disability or religion.”

The Kleins believe they conducted business within the bounds of the U.S. Constitution.

“To be told they’re going to force me to convey a message other than what I want to convey — it flies in the face of the Constitution,” said Aaron Klein. ”It’s a violation of my conscience. It’s a violation of my religious freedom. It’s horrible to see your own government doing this to you.”

The Kleins are reportedly fighting a $150,000 lawsuit from the state of Oregon.

Sweet Cakes by Melissa has closed its storefront location and is operating out of the couple’s home. The decision was reportedly made because the Klein’s would rather close their business than serve gay clients.
