Anti-Gay, Pro-Christian Benham Brothers Say Satan Behind Scopes Monkey Trial

Identical twin brothers Jason and David Benham, who were dropped by HGTV for their anti-gay views, recently claimed that Satan played a part in the famous Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925.

According to GoodAsYou.org, the brothers, who are conservative Christians, wrote on their blog on May 9:

At first, Satan got a toehold on life in the 1920′s with the Scopes Monkey Trial (evolution can be taught alongside creation). Eventually, of course, this toehold became a stronghold to where creation can no longer be taught at all. And the result, 1973′s Roe v. Wade. Without a Creator we now become the determiners of life instead of God.

The Scopes Monkey Trial took place in Dayton, Tenn., where substitute teacher John Scopes was put on trial for teaching evolution in a public school, which violated Tennessee's Butler Act. Scopes was found guilty and fined $100, although the verdict was later overturned because the judge, not the jury, decided the fine, noted NPR.

Ironically, the Scopes Monkey Trial was about free speech, which David recently said they support (video below), noted the Christian Post.

"One thing that we want to encourage Americans is that it's so important right now. There is a fracture in our nation and religious liberty, and freedom to think and freedom to express our beliefs is fractured and our nation needs us," said David.
