Anti-Gay Christians Still Upset Over Losing 2014 TV Show (Video)

David and Jason Benham lost a reality TV show on HGTV back in May 2014 after some of David's anti-gay statements surfaced. The brothers subsequently became well-known anti-gay Christian activists, but have not forgotten the incident, which they recalled on Jan. 9 (video below).

David told the Liberty Counsel’s "Faith and Freedom" radio program how he and his brother were allegedly bullied by Right Wing Watch, GLAAD and other groups while in the middle of filming their unaired HGTV series. David recalled that he and his brother saw "the inside of the devil’s lair in terms of this thought mafia that targets Christians and big business that just panders to it," notes Right Wing Watch.

The website reported in May 2014 that David led a rally outside the Democratic National Convention in 2012, and told Christian radio host Janet Mefferd: "[W]e have homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation..."

In May 2012, David cited Leviticus 20:13, a biblical death penalty for homosexuals, in The Christian Post:

In the Leviticus passage above it says that death is the consequence for homosexual sin. This is how detestable this type of sin is to God. However, Jesus came and took the consequences of this sin upon Himself on the cross.

Homosexual sin is covered by the blood of Jesus the same way stealing is. The only difference today is that homosexual sin carries with it an agenda, other sins do not.

David also compared the acceptance of same-sex marriage rights to the rise of the Nazi regime on Operation Save America's website, owned by his dad Flip Benham, in 2014:

In terms of Ken’s take on Referendum 74 (same sex marriage vote), if evil is being accepted and appreciated at the national level, aggressive Christian men must lead the charge against it. In the late 1940s England realized this truth with Neville Chamberlain’s Policy of Appeasement and the Nazi regime.

Chamberlain thought he could somehow "appease" the fuehrer, yet Winston Churchill aggressively stood against this policy and proclaimed that they must kill Hitler and destroy the regime in its entirety. It wasn’t long before Chamberlain’s "politically correct" policy fell flat on its face, and Churchill -- the more aggressive man -- took the reins and joined America in defeating the beast called Nazism.

In response to those remarks and others, HGTV tweeted on May 7, 2014: "HGTV has decided not to move forward with the Benham Brothers' series."

Jason told CNN that same night that HGTV had vetted him and his brother:

When they -- a year and a half ago -- saw some of the footage where my brother was saying the things he was saying, they spoke with us. They got to know us a little better and then they made a judgment call, recognizing that David and I have no hate in our heart for anyone. We've been running a successful real estate company for the last 11 years and we help all people. There is no discrimination.

David insisted that he had never spoken against gay people:

We love all people. I love homosexuals. I love Islam, Muslims, and my brother and I would never discriminate. Never have we -- never would we. Never have I ever spoken against homosexuals, as individuals, and gone against them. I speak about an agenda. And that's really what the point of this is -- is that there is an agenda that is seeking to silence the voices of men and women of faith.
