400 Of Guru's Followers May Have Been Castrated To Meet God

About 400 male followers of a guru, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, reportedly castrated themselves in order to meet God.

India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been looking into the mass castrations and interviewing men as part of a case being prepared against Singh, who has been dubbed the "guru in bling," noted The Sydney Morning Herald.

Singh reportedly has 40 to 50 million followers around the world, and many of the victims are afraid to speak out.

"CBI sleuths met some old ... followers and were, thus, successful in tracing some others who were castrated in the name of God," an unidentified police source told the Mail Today newspaper in India. "Some of the castrated followers, who agreed to record their statements before the judicial magistrate, have left for Delhi where the case has been registered."

The castrations were allegedly done by doctors who worked in a medical center owned by Singh's Dera Sacha Sauda organization, noted India Today.

Singh has also been investigated over a newspaper editor's murder, and several charges of sexual exploitation of women.

However, it is believed that Singh has not been prosecuted because of his strong political ties.

The spiritual enlightenment business is huge in India where it rakes in about $35 billion annually; Singh is reportedly worth $50 million.
