On ABC's 'This Week,' former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's recent comments to his major donors were skewered by Republicans on Sunday (video below).
Romney said: "What the president's campaign did was focus on certain members of his base coalition, give them extraordinary financial gifts from the government and then worked very aggressively to get them to vote."
After playing the Romney clip, 'This Week' showed a recent clip of GOP Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal criticizing Romney, calling him "not helpful" to the Republican Party and "not the direction we need to go."
Guesting on the 'This Week' panel, Newt Gingrich gave his opinion of Romney's statements: "I just think it's nuts. First of all, it's insulting."
Then conservative columnist George Will added: "Quit despising the American people, particularly because a lot of what they're despising them for are Republican policies. When Mitt Romney said, 'So many Americans aren't paying taxes,' yeah, because the Republicans doubled the child tax credit for conservative reasons, yes, because they expanded the Earned Income Tax Credit, as Ronald Reagan did, because they thought it was an effective anti-poverty program."
