Republicans were confident on Monday that Tuesday's election would be a major victory for GOP challenger Mitt Romney.
They quoted polls by Rasmussen and Gallup, which had Romney up by a few points, but were sadly disappointed on Tuesday night.
Some Republicans even went ballistic after Romney's loss, reports the NY Daily News.
'Birther' and billionaire Donald Trump called the election a “total sham and a travesty” on Twitter.
Trump also tweeted: “We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Let’s fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us.”
NRA board member and musician Ted Nugent also went on a Twitter tirade calling Obama supporters: "pimps, whores & welfare brats" who "just voted for economic & spiritual suicide."
Saturday Night Live alumni and 'birther' Victoria Jackson wrote on Twitter: “I can’t stop crying. America died.”
American Family Association radio host Bryan Fischer wrote on Twitter: “Today was Pearl Harbor. Tomorrow. we begin planning for Normandy."
Conservative Dick Morris said on a video (below): “We must stop Obama’s socialist agenda. That’s our job for the next four years. We cannot allow Obama to magnify his narrow victory into a mandate for larger government, bigger spending, and less freedom.”
Fox News host Sean Hannity said on his radio show (audio below): "Americans, you get the government you deserve. And it pains me to say this, but America right now deserves Barack Obama. You deserve what you voted for. I know half the country didn’t vote that way, but Americans deserve the government that they want and they deserve."
Right wing radio host Rush Limbaugh said on his show yesterday (audio below): “We are outnumbered and we are losing ground. This was not a glitch. This is the trend. That happened last night. This is the trend. We are outnumbered. Whether you want to put it in terms of, ‘Have we lost the country or not?’ There’s no other explanation.”
