President Obama said in a video (below) published on Friday morning that he will do “everything in my power” to enact gun control policies in 2013.
Obama was responding to a gun control petition on the White House’s website that had 197,073 signatures as of Friday morning, reports RawStory.com.
Obama said: “I just wanted to take a minute today to respond and let you know, we hear you... I will do everything in my power as president to advance these efforts. Because if there’s even one thing we can do in the country to protect our children, we have a responsibility to try.”
He added that many gun owners want the “banning [of] the sale of military-style assault weapons” and “high capacity ammunition clips.”
Obama also suggested that he would close the “gun show loophole,” which allows guns to be bought at gun shows without a background check.
