Folk legends Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie and other musicians marched 30 blocks to Columbus Circle on Friday night following a performance at the Symphony Space on the Upper West Side. The 92-year-old Seeger led a crowd of hundreds in a rendition of “We Shall Overcome” and “This Little Light” in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement (video below).
The performance recalled Seeger’s earlier protest work fighting for civil and labor rights in the 1960s.
NPR reported that “marchers held American flags and a large blue flag that said 'Revolution Generation … Debt is Slavery.' Along the way, the crowd sang protest songs made popular or written by Seeger, Woody Guthrie, and others of the protest era.”
