Now She Tell Us: Laura Bush Pro-Gay Marriage, Pro-Choice

Former First Lady Laura Bush says she's in favor of both gay marriage and a woman's right to choose.

Bush appeared on Larry King last night and told the CNN anchor she believes "when couples are committed to each other and love each other, they ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone has."

Bush also spoke to King about her stance on abortion. She recalled Katie Couric asking about her beliefs on the day her husband was inaugurated: "[Couric] asked me if I was for the overturn of Roe versus Wade...This was the very morning my husband was about to be inaugurated. And I thought, do I really want to start my husband's presidency suggesting that a Supreme Court rule be overturned? And I said no... I think it's important that it remain legal."

"I guess that would be an area where we disagree," Bush said, referring to her husband and herself.

Should Laura Bush have spoken out during George W. Bush's presidency, rather than afterward?
