Trump Adviser: Ban Abortion, No Rape, Incest Exceptions

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump announced his new "pro-life coalition" on Sept. 16, which will be headed by Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, who opposes abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.

Dannenfelser, who publicly opposed Trump in January, changed her mind about him in May when she wrote an opinion article for entitled, "The pro-life case for Trump," notes USA Today.

Dannenfelser said in a statement on Sept. 16:

Not only has Mr. Trump doubled down on his three existing commitments to the pro-life movement, he has gone a step further in pledging to protect the Hyde Amendment and the conscience rights of millions of pro-life taxpayers.

For a candidate to make additional commitments during a general election is almost unheard of. The contrast could not be clearer between the two tickets, and I am proud to serve as National Chairwoman for Donald Trump’s Pro-Life Coalition.

Dannenfelser told LifeSiteNews in June 2015 that a rape exception in a then-proposed anti-abortion bill was "abominable":

I agree. I agree that the rape exception is abominable I also know that with it, we were able to move forward, and we have the potential of saving 15,000 to 18,000 children a year. No one should give up or give over a rape exception unless there is simply no chance of saving those other children. I really believe that.

In May 2015, Dannenfelser made a similar statement, including discussing an exception for incest, during a radio interview with Shane Vander Hart, noted Right Wing Watch:

Regrettably, there is a rape and incest exception [in the bill]. It was the only way it was going to be allowed onto the floor by the leadership. I mean, I say regrettable, I really mean it. Any child at any stage should be protected from conception, and certainly at 20 weeks excepting anyone is just wrong.
